Happy National Salesperson Day!

Founded 16 years ago and celebrated every first Friday of March, National Salesperson Day “honors the value and dedication of the professional salesperson as well as the hard work that they perform.”

There’s no question Realtors® are the most dedicated salespeople and brokers of any industry. Whether its negotiating the sale of a $1 million home on behalf of a client, helping a small business owner purchase their first office space, or closing the deal for an awestruck first-time buyer, Realtors® support and build local communities. And in today’s digital age, they’re serving clients day and night, on weekends and even holidays.

In honor of our 1.1 million members, below are some recent figures on their demographic and business characteristics from the 2015 NAR Member Profile.

Anatomy of a Realtor®

Demographics: 
Gender: 58 percent women
Median age: 57 years old
Education: 50 percent obtained a bachelor’s degree or higher
Languages: 48 percent of those fluent in other language speak Spanish

Business Activity:
Median transactions: 11
Median gross income – $45,800
Experience: median of 12 years
Occupation: 77 percent real estate full-time; 5 percent started career in real estate
Licenses: 58 percent sales agents; 26 percent brokers; 18 percent broker associates; 3 percent appraisers
Specialties: 80 percent residential sales; 71 percent secondary specialties
Future plans: 84% (82% last year) are certain they’ll remain in the business for at least 2+ years
